The First Assembly of God Youth Ministries Department has existed for a number of years and continues to make a phenomenal impact on the lives of young people in the church and throughout Guyana.
The department has designed and executed several programmes that aim at the development and involvement of young Guyanese. These programmes provide positive entertainment, encouragement and development as well as display the talents and skills of Christian young people.
Some of these include International Youth Conference, Youth Ministries, Speed the Light, Talfest, and Gospel Fest, to name a few. International Youth Conferences is an annual convention which caters for the training of approximately one hundred young people from all around Guyana in areas such as Managing Finances, Career Mentorship, Etiquette and Integrity. These sessions are facilitated by Christian men and women who are professionals in the fields and who can testify of their experience. International Youth Conference has managed not only to bring Christian Young people together in an elite and professional environment to train and certify them, but has also been able to make an intense spiritual impact on their lives while at the same time affording them the opportunity to build relationships with their colleagues with whom they can share knowledge and experiences.
The Youth Ministries group meets once every week and young people are encouraged to come out and be ministered to through song, dance, drama, games or just simple interaction. The group delegates a theme to every month and under those themes, issues which young people are affected by and are passionate about are discussed. Examples of these issues are relationships, holiness, marriage, career, education and socialisation. The group oftentimes hosts a social or a games night which provides a more relaxed environment for youths to familiarise themselves with each other over a game of chess, table tennis, dominos or scrabble.
Other activities of the group such as Talfest, Speed the Light and Gospel fest are hosted to discover and showcase the talent of Christian youths in song, drama, poetry, dance and the playing of instrument. They afford youths the opportunity to minster to the hearts of many through their God-given talents while at the same time encouraging other young people to get involved in the Ministry.
Apart from the different activities offered, the Youth Ministry Department provides a home and a place of belonging for numerous young people. May have found brothers and sisters in Christ from whom they seek counsel and look to for advice and encouragement. Some have confided in the senior members of the group as parents and guardians.
The Youth Ministries Department at First Assembly of God Wortmanville, under the dedicated leadership of its Youth Pastor Raphael Jackman and Assistant Youth Pastor Paul Benjamin, has gone above and beyond in its pursuit to win young souls for Christ and will continue to change the lives of young people in Guyana and around the world.
